High Hysteresis Suspended Wetting State: A Wetting Regime for Controlled Trapping of Drops on Micro‐Trench Covered Surfaces

چکیده
Wetting of simple liquids on rough surfaces is usually described either by the Cassie–Baxter model where drops are suspended over roughness features with air trapped below, or Wenzel impaled features. According to model, can be surfaces, whereas in easily released upon adding a small tilt. Surfaces very regular surface pattern, such as closely spaced micro-trenches, exhibit so-called High Hysteresis Suspended State (HySS). In this state assume spherical shape below them, characteristic feature state, but show high contact angle hysteresis (up >70°), typical for regime. The HySS regime studied function geometry, applied pressure and mass drop. Through roll-off measurements it shown that controlled trapping conditions generated, captured, however, addition amount energy (e.g., induced tilt) released. parameters used control “depth” trap elucidated.

Trapping of drops by wetting defects
Controlling the motion of drops on solid surfaces is crucial in many natural phenomena and technological processes including the collection and removal of rain drops, cleaning technology and heat exchangers. Topographic and chemical heterogeneities on solid surfaces give rise to pinning forces that can capture and steer drops in desired directions. Here we determine general physical conditions ...
متن کاملInitial spreading of low-viscosity drops on partially wetting surfaces.
Liquid drops start spreading directly after coming into contact with a partially wetting substrate. Although this phenomenon involves a three-phase contact line, the spreading motion is very fast. We study the initial spreading dynamics of low-viscosity drops using two complementary methods: molecular dynamics simulations and high-speed imaging. We access previously unexplored length and time s...

We study the wetting by water of complex "hydrophobic-hydrophilic" surfaces made of a hydrophobic substrate covered by a hydrophilic polymer brush. Polystyrene (PS) substrates covered with polystyrene- block-poly(acrylic acid) PS- b-PAA diblock copolymer layers were fabricated by Langmuir-Schaefer depositions and analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and ellipsometry. On bare PS substrate, ...
متن کاملUtilizing dynamic tensiometry to quantify contact angle hysteresis and wetting state transitions on nonwetting surfaces.
Goniometric techniques traditionally quantify two parameters, the advancing and receding contact angles, that are useful for characterizing the wetting properties of a solid surface; however, dynamic tensiometry, which measures changes in the net force on a surface during the repeated immersion and emersion of a solid into a probe liquid, can provide further insight into the wetting properties ...
متن کاملWetting of Doubly Periodic Rough Surfaces in Wenzel’s Regime
In this work we present preliminary results from our numerical study of the shapes of a liquid meniscus in contact with doubly sinusoidal rough surfaces in Wenzel’s wetting regime. Using the full capillary model we obtain the advancing and the receding equilibrium meniscus shapes for a broad interval of surface roughness factors. The contact angle hysteresis is obtained when the three-phase con...
